Update on the Jernigans

So I realized I hadn't really done an update on what we have been doing lately, mostly because Sage is now walking and climbing and getting into everything, which doesn't leave me much time for a whole heck of a lot. She is probably 20 pounds now at 16 months and says so many words it is funny to hear her say "I didn't do it" and then expect me to wonder who did...lol..We are also trying to get her to eat adult food but she is SO picky, it seems all she wants are fries, hamburgers or pizza (wonder where she got that) But seriously she will only eat certain of the same food no fruits or vegis and I have tried it all over and over, she doesn't even like juice so if you have any suggestions. I can put all of her hair in a pony tail now as she has so much of it, but her dad still won't let me cut it and I agree, I don't think I want to deal with bangs, so we are letting her grow it out, for now she looks like she has the donald trump doo. She also FINALLY got a cousin on this side of the mountain when Andy and Carol welcomed baby Floyd Henry Holman into the world weighing 9 pounds 3 ounces and looking like his daddy. Since they live in the San Juan Islands, Carol was with Cait and when they got the call, Andy drove his own boat across to make it in time..lol..I only wish they lived closer. Well, when the sun decided to come out we headed out doors. We went to Prosser to visit and go to the father daughter dance and of course stop at the feeding station to see the elk. We took Sage to the zoo and North West Trek. Jeramy and his friend "Uncle Fro" bundled Sage up and put her in the pack and hiked up into the mountains looking for sheds, she loved it! For easter she got a little pink car that has a handle behind it so we've been going to the farmers market alot and getting our garden ready. Other than that we are just waiting for the sun to finally decide to stick around so we can start playing outside.

In the summer, i would blend up strawberries and other fruit and freeze them in icecube trays, then give them to her outside when it was really hot. it was like candy. I bet if you blended up veggies with the fruit and mixed them all together she wouldn't even know she was eating veggies. You can even put little popsicle sticks in the trays if you want, she'll think it's great. Messy, but great. Hope that works for ya!

This was fun to read. I can't believe she is growing up so fast. I did the same thing with my girls' hair- didn't cut it and just let it grow. There was something about when the hit 18 months, their hair just took off growing.

About eating- I love Em's idea. Also, kids love to be able to dip things, so if you have ketchup or ranch or some other kind of dip, a lot of times you can get them to use toothpicks (supervised of course) with little pieces of fruit or veggies and let them dip. There's some good recipes for fruit dips out there.

I miss Andy. If you see him tell him I said hi and congratulations!

Love you!

Oh yeah, one more thing- I haven't tried it yet, but Jerry Seinfeld's wife wrote a cookbook that I think is called Deceptively Delicious or something like that. She has recipes for how to sneak veggies and fruit into recipes kids love. Just an idea : ) Hope you are having a ton of sunshine today like we are.

Wow, 20 pounds! That's a milestone. I never had the problem of picky eaters, my kids ate anything and everything, so I don't have a whole lot of advice for you... sorry, Can't wait to come over this weekend. I hope it all works out. We probably won't be leaving now though until Saturday late morning or early afternoon. I'll give you a call! Love ya!

She's getting so big! I hope you guys can make it over this way this summer. Sorry we didn't make it your way last month, like we said. The rain sent us to Cal instead :) Does Sage like applesauce? If you blend some veggies and mix it, it is still good! just not too many veggies at once!

I like Em's idea. I remember Avery eating those little veggie and fruitcycles and loving them. I can't believe Sage is getting so big. She shouldn't be 16 months old yet. Seems like yesterday that we were all waiting for the call and praying for her to be ok. It's amazing. Love you guys.
